Healthy Bodies

Kate and I were soooo sick last week. First time I have been sick since we married other than a random head/sinus cold. We are talking "hug the toilet, I think I'm going to die" sick. Last Thursday the kids and I went to downtown Phoenix for a photo shoot with my bestie Liz who moved to Texas. She was in town for a family wedding and we didn't get to do her pictures before they moved. Liz phones to say she is parking, I load the kids into the stroller and as I do Kate loses her day's worth of food, over and over again. My kids have never been sick and I stood there slack-jawed and wide-eyed as she vomited. Crap. We have only snacks, wipes and diapers. She is covered. We wheel over to Liz and I try to clean her up. Finally I just strip her down and Liz loans me an extra shirt she was going to wear for the session. It drowns Kate naturally.

Kate only wants to be held but she never cried. We try to make the best of it and decide to continue with the shoot. Baby in one arm, camera in the other. Go! Kate vomits again. Again and again. I feel terrible.

I hand the camera to Liz and she takes some of her boys while I attend to Kate. Thankfully Max is happily distracted with a bag of M&Ms and Liz's little brother-in-law. Phew. Still holding Kate I take the camera back and we work quickly. Kate loses it again but there isn't anything left. We get what we need to; light is fading fast and I am holding a diaper clad baby in downtown Phoenix, classy. We go our separate ways and head off into treacherous traffic. Kate continues to dry heave in the car. I phone Phil with an update and tell him I am not feeling too well either. We make it to our exit and I get the "feeling". Sweaty palms, excessive swallowing, churning stomach. I quickly roll down the window and pray to make it home. The light turns green and as I am turning I lose it. Not pretty. I continue to drive and vomit out the window. Nice. Kinda scary too. I am glad we didn't get in an accident.

Baths for the kids, Kate continues to dry heave, I crawl to the toilet and suffer. Phil takes over and puts the kids to bed. I set up shop in the bathroom and visit the porcelain every 20 minutes for the next 8 hours. Wretched. I hope to never be sick again and feel for every pregnant woman who suffers this way! The next day I was completely wiped and we loafed around in pj's and watched Baby Einstein too many times. It took me a few days to get my appetite back and sadly no pounds were lost during the ordeal. Thankfully Max and Phil were spared and we are all well.

I am so grateful for health and strength, things you take for granted.

Ugh, that is the worst, worst, worst! I don't know if there's anything I hate more than throwing up, sorry to hear you had such a bad round of it and the little lady too! It's extra crappy that you didn't lose any lbs with it. That's usually the one reward at the end of the suffering.

What an absolute nightmare. Glad the boys were spared and that you and Kate are better.

How terrible! You poor sweet things! I can't imagine a worse time to throw up. Bless your heart. Makes you SO grateful to be well, doesn't it? Glad everyone is well now!!

Rats! The only thing worse than having sick kids is being a sick mom of sick kids. So sorry and so glad you're feeling better! Sometimes we tend to be a little hard on our bodies, but man do we sure realize how wonderful they are when we're sick (a couple of extra pounds or not).

Oh my gosh! I didn't realize you were out and about when it all started. Wow, what a mess! You are a trooper.

wow! you poor thing and poor little kate! I much rather have strep throat than throw up! It is amazing how much we take our health for granted. Being sick with bronchitis for 3 weeks and pregnant has been torture, but at the end of the day I am grateful I am typically healthy.

Oh my holy yucky! I am so sorry! And so glad you guys are feeling better. No fun at all! I was one of those toilet hungers during my pregnancy. Ugh. Hope those sickies stay away!

*toilet huggers, not hungers

Oh Heather that is the WORST!! I couldn't imagine having it all happen when you're outside of the comfort of your home. That type of flu is just awful; especially when you're a mom! I am so happy you are feeling better now and that sweet Kate is too!

I'm impressed that Max and Phil avoided the sickness. I'm sorry you were so sick...you were just saying the other day that you haven't been sick your entire marriage. Crazy!
I have thought a lot lately about what an amazing blessing it is to have good health. I know it's a blessing I take for granted quite often!

Ohh that is the worst! Don't you hate it when your petite babies throw up. Everytime Kendal does I just think of all of the calories. By the way (you may already have tried it) add ground flax seed to your kids smoothies. GREAT nutrition and calories.

What the heck...That is a CRAZY story....I am so glad you are feeling better...hugs girl.
Glad you documented the madness....
When the girls were little they have the pukes and we were out of gatorade...so I took them to Walmart...they puked every where. Left the care and went to the car and took off my shirt and drove home in my bra. Don't you know it but my V.t. was sitting at my house when I drove up...sorry for the novel....fun to remember

So so sad! I dont like picturing poor little Kate puking iver and over and then you having to puke out the window. It all sounds awful. I've gotten sick more this year then I ever have and Im guessing that Reese is the one bringing all of these germs to me.

Bummer for not losing any lbs while being sick...thats pretty much the only benefit.

How horrible! Throwing up is the worst...especially when you are dry heaving over and over and you get no relief. I can't believe you puked out the window! That's crazy! And poor little Kate. You feel so bad and helpless when your baby is sick. :( Glad you're both feeling better!
