Sick & Tired of being Sick & Tired

Phil is sick and when Phil gets sick it's not pretty. He gets his annual flu bug and it wipes him out for a week. Let's be honest, husbands are not the best patients. And I've realized that I would not be a patient nurse if that was my chosen profession. Good thing I clean teeth.

The kids have been kept away from their daddy and if close encounters occur their hands are speedily disinfected. Hoping and praying this ends with Phil and we don't pass the love around.  Phil needs to study and I need one less body to worry about.

Healthy Bodies

Kate and I were soooo sick last week. First time I have been sick since we married other than a random head/sinus cold. We are talking "hug the toilet, I think I'm going to die" sick. Last Thursday the kids and I went to downtown Phoenix for a photo shoot with my bestie Liz who moved to Texas. She was in town for a family wedding and we didn't get to do her pictures before they moved. Liz phones to say she is parking, I load the kids into the stroller and as I do Kate loses her day's worth of food, over and over again. My kids have never been sick and I stood there slack-jawed and wide-eyed as she vomited. Crap. We have only snacks, wipes and diapers. She is covered. We wheel over to Liz and I try to clean her up. Finally I just strip her down and Liz loans me an extra shirt she was going to wear for the session. It drowns Kate naturally.

Kate only wants to be held but she never cried. We try to make the best of it and decide to continue with the shoot. Baby in one arm, camera in the other. Go! Kate vomits again. Again and again. I feel terrible.

I hand the camera to Liz and she takes some of her boys while I attend to Kate. Thankfully Max is happily distracted with a bag of M&Ms and Liz's little brother-in-law. Phew. Still holding Kate I take the camera back and we work quickly. Kate loses it again but there isn't anything left. We get what we need to; light is fading fast and I am holding a diaper clad baby in downtown Phoenix, classy. We go our separate ways and head off into treacherous traffic. Kate continues to dry heave in the car. I phone Phil with an update and tell him I am not feeling too well either. We make it to our exit and I get the "feeling". Sweaty palms, excessive swallowing, churning stomach. I quickly roll down the window and pray to make it home. The light turns green and as I am turning I lose it. Not pretty. I continue to drive and vomit out the window. Nice. Kinda scary too. I am glad we didn't get in an accident.

Baths for the kids, Kate continues to dry heave, I crawl to the toilet and suffer. Phil takes over and puts the kids to bed. I set up shop in the bathroom and visit the porcelain every 20 minutes for the next 8 hours. Wretched. I hope to never be sick again and feel for every pregnant woman who suffers this way! The next day I was completely wiped and we loafed around in pj's and watched Baby Einstein too many times. It took me a few days to get my appetite back and sadly no pounds were lost during the ordeal. Thankfully Max and Phil were spared and we are all well.

I am so grateful for health and strength, things you take for granted.
